What:

What is the RCMRD Geoportal and Open Data Portal? The Thematic Lead for Agriculture and Food Security, Lilian Ndungu will give an overview of the RCMRD data portals. She is working for the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), https://rcmrd.org/.  Lilian will introduce the RCMRD online resources and provide insights on how the tools are bridging the gap between information accessibility and decision making.

What is SmartAfriHub? The web-, social media- and communication expert Petr Uhlir and the admin of the SmartAfriHub gives an overview of the SmartAfriHub. Why is SmartAfriHub useful in Africa to boost community building and digital transformation?  Petr will lead you on a tour into the platform. Petr works for the Czech Centre for Science and Society, CCSS, http://www.ccss.cz/en/.

Why: We are building a community of smart agriculture. The SmartAfriHub provides a social space,  knowledge transfer mechanisms, innovation sources and a selection of useful and open agriculture data banks and tools.  Smart AfriHub gathers the agricultural practitioners, IT oriented experts and stakeholders to design and implement the digital transformation in Africa - together.  In addition, we are also building an Africa - EU partnership by enhancing communication, networking and sharing open resources

About Your Presenters

Lilian Ndungu is a Technical Lead for Agriculture and Food Security at RCMRD/SERVIR E&SA is an Agriculture and Food Security Expert, with outstanding experience in providing technical leadership for programs on climate change, agriculture and food security. She is passionate about the application of big data, technology for adaptation and resilience. Lilian won the NASA Excellence Award (2016) for contribution towards Agriculture and Food Security Assessments in East and Southern Africa.

Petr Uhlir Senior web designer oriented on user experience (UX) and frontend architecture with skills in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), web marketing mix 4S (marketing mix focused on web environment extended about process management) and online marketing in general (SEO, SEM, Social media, emailing, etc.) which is in synergy with offline marketing. He is a creative person with feeling for aesthetics and design. Participated in more than 10 international projects. Education: Technical University in Prague, Faculty of electrical engineering - SW technologies and management; University of Economics in Prague, Faculty of Informatics and Statistics - Information Systems Management, Faculty of International Relations - Retail business. Involved EU project SmartAhrihubs and PoliRural.

Jiri Kvapil graduated at Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science, graduated in Cartography, Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing. His working history is GIS analyst,IT administrator, IT Architect, Head of department, Project manager. Jiri has a great experience with implementation and reporting of EU Directives (INSPIRE, WFD, UWWTD, DWD), responsile for CLC 2012 project in the CZ as project manager. He is also involved in many national projects (Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Environment, Technology Agency) and international research projects (ETC/ICM, smeSpire, SUDPLAN, FATIMA, Polirural, SIEUSOIL and others).

Bente Lilja Bye has been a member of the GEO community since 2004, engaged both as representative in the GEO plenary, in committees and contributing to the GEO Work Programme, and currently represents Norway on the GEO Programme Board. Bente runs a small research and consultancy company, BLB, focusing on transforming Earth observation data to information and knowledge for societal benefit. She is responsible for Communication, Dissemination and Assessment as partner in NextGEOSS.
